No fewer than 3 local miners are reportedly killed with 2 injured by gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias at a mining site in Riyom local government area (LGA) of Plateau State Friday morning.

Barr. Solomon Mwantiri of the Emancipation Center for Crisis Victims in Nigeria (EVCV) told The Sun Newspaper on Friday that the attackers descended on the locals at a Mining site located at Tanjol area of Jol Community around 11 am.

He further explained that the two of the injured miners are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed healthcare facility.

Mwantiri alleged that the attackers came from a captured community by name Rankum village which was since renamed by Fulanis as ‘Mahanga” over the years.

“At about 11:00am, 23/6/2023 Fulani militias from Rankum (Mahanga) shot dead 3 persons and 2 injured at Mining site in Tanjol area of Jol Community, Riyom LGA,” Barr. Mwantiri narrated.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo when contacted on the attack via a phone calls and chat but was not responding as at the time of filling this report.
