From Jude Dangwam, Jos
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has disclosed that the state is set for economic revolution following the conclusion of a feasibility study by a team from the African Development Bank (ADB).
He said a team of consultants from the ADB has concluded feasibility studies, and has identified a suitable location at Heipang towards setting up a special agro processing zone, targeting an investment of nothing less than $300 million into the state.
The governor stated this yesterday while addressing various political appointees and their associates at the inauguration of 22 special advisers, and 24 liaison officers across the 17 LGAs at the new Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
He noted that the world was waiting for agro products from Plateau State, hence the commitment of his administration to turn the wheels of agriculture in meeting the demands at the international market.
“One of the key things we must pursue from now on as we settle into governance is the business of agriculture. All of us, without exception, should begin to think about agriculture.
“Whatever thing you are doing, whatever assignment you are carrying out, it must dovetail into agriculture, because if we don’t liberate all the potentials that God has deposited in the land, we will not lift ourselves out of poverty.
“So we’re going to come aggressively on that, and it will be my joy and delight to see every space of land occupied by one cup of agricultural commodity or the earth,” he charged citizens of the state.
Governor Mutfwang hinted that the world was waiting for the abundance of flowers the state has, ranging from strawberry to vegetable and coffee, and called on all coffee farmers to go back to the farm for serious business this time around.
“Let me give you a tip of the iceberg, the world is waiting for us to sell flowers abroad. Flowers! So, if you have an acumen for flowers, get to business because the market is waiting for you.
“Those of you who attempted to farm coffee some years ago and you couldn’t go for that because there was no market, good news for you, there’s a market now.
“There are so many things here the world is waiting for. The world is waiting for our strawberry, the world is waiting for our vegetable, let’s get to this,” he noted
He further disclosed: “This morning, I received a team of consultants sent by the African Development Bank, who have concluded their feasibility studies towards setting up a special agro processing zone around the Hiepang area, which we are targeting an investment of not less than $300 million in that regard.
“So, let me encourage you Plateau people; let’s go back to agriculture, and of course, we know that to go back to agriculture there must be peace. That’s why we have resurrected the Plateau Peace Building Agency.
“But everybody among us must be a peace builder. We are leaders in our own right, with our community, therefore, we must rise to the occasion.”
