The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State, Okoro Julius Alawari, yesterday said police operatives intercepted a truck loaded with 100 bags of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp hidden under dry gin cartons, being moved into the state capital.
Men of the Police Force said the intercepted truck with registration number LAGOS KJA-450-XG, a Volkswagen Sharon vehicle with registration number ABUJA RSH-334-PJX, and a Volkswagen Golf car with registration number LAGOS AKD-731-AT were sighted while the truck was being offloaded around the HBC Resort, Kwata axis of Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The CP, through the Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, yesterday, said four suspects were arrested after a hot chase, while others took to their heels.
“On August 30, 2023, at approximately 1045hrs, the Eagle Eye Patrol Unit of Plateau Police Command received credible intelligence from an informant that a truck was sighted about to offload its consignment, suspected to be Indian hemp, into two other smaller vehicles at the HBC Resort, Kwata axis of Jos South Local Government Area.
“On receipt of the intelligence, the gallant operatives of the unit, led by ASP Taiwo Ganiyu Bamidele, rushed to the scene and intercepted the truck with registration number LAGOS KJA-450-XG, a Sharon vehicle with registration number ABUJA RSH-334-PJX, and a Volkswagen Golf with registration number LAGOS AKD-731-AT.”
Alawari noted that upon sighting the officers, “the suspects took to their heels while four suspects were apprehended after a hot chase. When the vehicles were searched, 100 bags of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, hidden under Gin cartons, were recovered.” He said the suspects, vehicles, and exhibits were in police custody while efforts were being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects as investigation continued.
The commissioner of police reassured the good people of Plateau State of the commitment of his command to ensure the safety and security of all residents of the state, as their hunt for criminals remains unwavering. The police boss called on Plateau residents to be security conscious, report any suspicious activities or persons, and provide useful, timely, and accurate information to help the police fight crime and criminality in the state.
