In a bid to stem the rising killings in Mangu Local Government, Plateau State, the Joint Security Task Force, codenamed Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), has relocated its tactical headquarters from Jos, the state capital, to Mangu.

The move, according to the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of OPEP, Maj. Gen. Williams Maxwell Dangana, was in direct response to recent security breaches in Mangu, particularly the violent attack on Bimper village, in which 24 people were killed.

Dangana, who spoke in Mangu yesterday while addressing troops deployed to the area, said the relocation of the tactical headquarters would enable the command to maintain a direct and real-time assessment of the security situation and respond promptly to emerging threats.

The GOC also announced the commencement of ‘Operation Hard Knock’, a special military operation involving the deployment of additional troops, equipment and other resources to strengthen security in Mangu and neighbouring communities.

He said the operation had received the full support of the Chief of Army Staff, who, according to him, had provided the necessary logistics and other enablers required for the mission.

“My being here is not just in person. I am here with a lot of enablers, additional manpower and all the resources that are required to confront the heightened security threats in Mangu and the surrounding areas,” Dangana said.

He described Operation Hard Knock as a strategic initiative designed to dismantle armed groups and criminal networks while restoring peace and stability across volatile communities in Mangu and other affected parts of Plateau State.

The commander assured residents that troops would remain in the area until hostilities had ceased and residents could move freely, conduct their businesses and return to their farming activities without fear.

He said the military would sustain its operations until the security situation was brought under control and normalcy fully restored across the affected communities.
