The 27 victims of the July 14 attack on Bindi-Jebbu of the Tahoss community in Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State, were on Friday given a mass burial by the local government authorities.
The burial of the victims was delayed because the authorities insisted that autopsies must be carried out on the victims to ascertain the real cause of death.
Indeed it was weeping and wailing, as the remains of the victims were lowered into a mass grave
Gunmen in an attack in the area had killed 27 farmers, including men and women. The attack left many people injured, with several rushed to hospitals.
The Chairman of Riyom LGA, Bature Sati Shuwa, who spoke at the occasion, lamented the spate of attacks on rural communities in the local government council.

He said: “My People of Bindi-Jebu and the greater Riyom community, we are gathered here today in unspeakable grief, hearts heavy with sorrow, to mourn our brothers and sisters – 27 precious lives cut down in a cruel and senseless act of violence in the early hours of July 15, 2025.
“As your chairman, I stand with you not only in leadership but in deep mourning. I cannot begin to imagine the pain, the silence in your homes, or the weight of these empty spaces left behind.
“To the immediate bereaved families: no words can truly comfort you, but, please know that your pain is ours; your loss, a wound in the heart of all of Riyom people. The entire local government mourns with you.
“We remember them not just as victims; but as fathers, mothers, children, farmers, neighbors, and friends.
“At this moment of great grief, I wish to express our deep and heartfelt appreciation to the governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for his personal and prompt visit to Bindi in the immediate aftermath of the attack.”
