The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has raised a strong alarm over what it described as an ongoing Christian genocide across the country, calling on both the Federal Government and the international community to act decisively to halt the killings.

Speaking after an emergency executive meeting of the Fellowship held at its national headquarters in Lagos, PFN President, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, said the Christian body would no longer remain silent while Christians are “targeted, killed, raped, and displaced” across the country.

“There is Christian genocide going on in Nigeria,” Bishop Oke declared. “If we call it by any other name, it will bring Nigeria down. We are crying out to our international friends, beginning with America and Donald Trump. Whatever you can do to help our government put an end to it, come quickly and get it done.”

He referenced several violent incidents, including the Christmas Day massacre in Benue State, where hundreds were reportedly killed, and the mass murder of over 500 Christians in Dogon Noma, Plateau State, describing them as clear evidence of systematic persecution.

“When Christmas Day was turned into a bloody day in Benue, what should we call it? When 501 Christians were massacred in Plateau for no other reason than their faith, what name fits that? Let’s call a spade a spade — this is genocide,” he insisted.

The PFN leader lamented that despite repeated cries from the Church, government response has been slow and inadequate. He recalled leading a delegation of Christian leaders to meet former President Muhammadu Buhari, only for their pleas to be ignored.

“We spoke with passion and clarity, but the issue was downplayed. That day, I knew the government was complicit,” he said.

Bishop Oke endorsed U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments highlighting the plight of Nigerian Christians, noting that Trump “only echoed what Nigerian Christians have been saying for years.”

He listed several unresolved cases as proof of state inaction — including the abduction of Leah Sharibu, the killing of Deborah Samuel in Sokoto, and the forced marriages of kidnapped Christian girls in parts of northern Nigeria.

“These atrocities continue while the perpetrators go free. The government should prove by action, not words, that it is not complicit,” Oke said. “When hundreds are buried in mass graves and the world sees it, who can deny it? Why should we play politics with the blood of Nigerians?”

The PFN President also criticised the government’s rehabilitation of “repentant terrorists,” calling it a dangerous policy that undermines justice and national security. He urged President Bola Tinubu to overhaul the nation’s security architecture and ensure it is free of sympathisers of extremist ideologies.

“Christians in this nation must be free to practise their faith in any part of Nigeria as bona fide citizens,” Oke stressed. “We have lived peacefully with our Muslim brothers for decades until violent sects arose seeking to impose Sharia on all Nigerians.”

He reaffirmed that the PFN would continue to speak out until justice is served and peace is restored.

“We are not going to keep quiet. We will keep raising our voices until justice is done and every Nigerian, regardless of faith, can live in peace. The truth may be suppressed for a time, but it cannot be buried forever,” he vowed.

The emergency meeting, which drew PFN leaders from across Nigeria, reaffirmed the Fellowship’s commitment to national unity, peace, and the protection of human rights, while urging the media to “side with the oppressed” and report the truth without fear or bias.
