As Nigeria joins the global community in celebrating Workers’ Day 2024, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has expressed unwavering support for Nigerian workers, praising their resilience and dedication to building a better nation.
In a letter marking the occasion, Obi assured workers of his solidarity in their struggles, stating: “My fellow Nigerian workers, as we gather to celebrate Workers’ Day 2024, I am filled with immense pride and admiration for each and every one of you who remain steadfast in your commitment to building our great nation, even amidst adversity and challenges.”
Obi acknowledged the hard work, dedication, and resilience of workers across the country, recognizing them as the backbone of society and the driving force behind Nigeria’s growth and development. He highlighted their contributions, from the bustling streets of Lagos to the serene villages in the north, and from the bustling markets of Onitsha to the bustling ports of Port Harcourt.
“Your labour forms the foundation upon which our nation stands,” Obi emphasized. “Whether you are toiling in the fields under the scorching sun or labouring in factories amid the hum of machinery, your efforts are the lifeblood of our economy and the driving force behind our progress.”
Obi commended the workers for their unwavering patriotism, resilience, and determination, particularly in the face of economic hardships, political uncertainties, and social injustices. He reaffirmed his support for their struggles, stating: “I stand with you in solidarity, championing your cause and advocating for your rights. I recognize the sacrifices you make each and every day to provide for your families, support your communities, and contribute to the collective well-being of our nation.”
On this Workers’ Day, Obi called for a reaffirmation of commitment to unity, justice, and equality for all. He urged Nigerians to take pride in their achievements, draw strength from their collective resilience, and rededicate themselves to building a better, more prosperous Nigeria for future generations.
“Lastly, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and admiration to each and every one of you for your unwavering dedication, patriotism, and sacrifice,” Obi concluded. “Your labour is the cornerstone of our nation’s prosperity, and your contributions will forever be cherished and celebrated. Truly, as our anthem reaffirms, the labour of our heroes shall, indeed, never be in vain. Happy Workers’ Day, my fellow compatriots.”
