The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it is targeting no fewer than 10 millions voters across the country to win the 2027 general election.
The National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, spoke at the inauguration of the Female Youth Wing in Abuja yesterday, saying the present leadership of the party believes in the potential of women and youths to contribute effectively to national development.
He said the unveiling of the female youth wing was in line with its resolve to effectively mobilise youths to participate actively in the 2027 election as well as support the opposition party.
Anyanwu admonished youths to leverage on the social media to mobilise support for the party, noting that the PDP is desirous of a better country, where young persons are able to get employment immediately after their graduation from school..
“We all want a better Nigeria, one where parents can afford school fees, where young people can get jobs after graduation, and where small businesses can thrive. That is why your participation matters. Your destiny is in your hands. If you remain passive, your future will remain stagnant. But if you mobilise, organise, and engage others, you can change your narrative.
“I encourage all female youths here not just to participate casually, but to prepare yourselves politically. The world is now a global village. You, as young women, have access to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp. Use these platforms positively to advance political awareness and mobilisation.
“Women are some of the most effective mobilisers in politics. In fact, they are often more consistent than men because they face more discipline and responsibility. If this were a gathering of men, many would have already left for other distractions. That is why women must take this responsibility seriously.
“The current leadership of our party is under a young and energetic national chairman, one of the youngest in the country. We must support him to succeed. Going forward, we are planning a structured mobilisation strategy.
“For example, if we engage female youths across all 27 local government areas in a state and mobilise at least 50 women per local government, we will build a strong political base. Our goal is to reach at least 5,000 female youths per state within the next three months before campaigns begin. They will be inaugurated in their respective states, and support such as training tools, laptops, and mobile devices will be provided to help them function effectively.”
Earlier, the PDP National Youth Leader, Ibrahim Bala-Aboki, promised that his office would galvanise massive grassroots for the opposition party to enable it reclaim its rightful place in the polity.
Bala-Aboki explained that the PDP plans to set up an administrative network of 288630 youths across the country. He added that each of the members of the structure is expected to identify no fewer than 20 prospective voters in their immediate communities.
“The primary objective of this mobilisation effort is to strengthen the grassroots base of the PDP and reposition the Party for future electoral success. Based on our projected administrative network of 288,630 members across both Male and Female structures, each executive member will be encouraged to identify, mobilise and support at least twenty (20) prospective voters and committed PDP members within their communities.”
He added that “with this robust structure and clearly defined responsibilities, we project that the PDP can build a voter support base of not less than ten million votes, all things being equal.”
