The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated a caretaker executive to oversee its affairs in Abia State, in what party leaders described as a decisive step towards rebuilding its structure and restoring internal cohesion ahead of future elections.
The inauguration ceremony, held on Tuesday at the PDP South East zonal office in Enugu, was conducted by the party’s National Vice Chairman (South East), Alli Odefa.
The newly constituted committee members were sworn in by the PDP South East Zonal Secretary, James Ugwu, who administered the oath of allegiance.
Among the newly inaugurated Abia PDP caretaker executive are: Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow as chairman; Chief Ochiobu Fidel, Gladys Okoro, Chief Chijindu Kalu, Kelvin Sampson, Ugo Kalu, Obinna Nwaogwugwu and Samuel Mike as members; and Felix Nwagbara as secretary.
Addressing party faithful and stakeholders at the event, Odefa charged the caretaker committee to return to Abia State with a renewed sense of purpose and urgency, insisting that the assignment before them was both delicate and historic.
“You have been entrusted with a sacred responsibility at a very critical time in the life of our party in Abia State. Your duty is not merely administrative. You are expected to rebuild, to reconcile, and to reposition the party.
“Go back home and reconnect with the grassroots. Restore the confidence of members who may have been discouraged. Bring back the vibrancy and strength that the PDP is known for,” Odefa said.
He acknowledged that the party had been navigating turbulent waters, alleging that anti-democratic forces were actively working to weaken opposition platforms across the country.

“There are forces that do not believe in a strong opposition. But we remain undeterred. We are currently involved in nine consolidated court cases, and we still have confidence in the judiciary and in men and women of good conscience. There is light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.
Odefa urged party stakeholders in Abia to rally round the new chairman and his team, stressing that unity and discipline would be critical to the party’s recovery.
In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated caretaker chairman, Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, described his appointment as a solemn call to service, sacrifice and selfless leadership.
“I want to sincerely thank the national leadership of our great party for the confidence reposed in me and my colleagues. This is not a moment for celebration but a moment for deep reflection. It is a call to duty — a call to serve with integrity, humility and dedication. We are fully aware of the enormous responsibility placed on our shoulders.”
Emeka-Yellow admitted that the party in Abia had suffered significant leadership crises in recent years, which he said weakened its internal structures and dampened the morale of members.
He noted that the November 2025 national convention of the party in Ibadan marked a turning point for the PDP, saying the emergence of a new national leadership helped restore order and discipline within the party.
He also expressed appreciation to key national leaders for their support in stabilising the party, including the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed; the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde; the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara; and the Deputy National Secretary, Richmond Ihediwa.
