The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) has said it would constitute a committee to reconcile the warring factions in the party.

The  BoT stated this in a communique read by its chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, after an expanded emergency meeting of the board, yesterday, in Abuja.

The board also disagreed with the judgment of the  Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, which nullified the party’s national convention, which produced the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) last November. The Turaki-led NWC is backed by Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde of Bauchi and Oyo states, respectively.

The Court of Appeal, had in a judgment, on Monday, nullified  the convention and upheld the verdict of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which barred the party from going ahead with the exercise, without first complying with extant laws.

In the aftermath of the convention, the PDP became polarised with loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, constituting well a 13-member National Caretaker Committee headed by Abdulraham Mohammed to run the affairs of the party, pending the conduct of its own convention.

PDP leaders have expressed diverse opinions on the Court of Appeal judgment, with some cautioning the NWC against taking its case to the Supreme Court.

On Tuesday, party leaders, including the Bauchi and Oyo states governors and BoT members, among others met in Abuja, to evaluate the import of the judgment and decide on the way forward.

Also, yesterday, the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, which is also hearing some appeals arising from judgments of the lower courts, admonished the parties to explore an out-of-court settlement.

Wabara said the BoT was disposed to exploring the window provided by the Court of Appeal, Ibadan, for reconciliation within the PDP. However, while responding to questions on the timeline for the reconciliation, the BoT chairman stated that it would be fast ‘if we all agree.’

The communique read in part: “The BoT disagrees with the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which pronounced an invalidation of the November 15 and 16, 2025 National Convention that produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee of our party. The BoT is awaiting the advice of our lawyers on the way forward in this regard.

“The BoT is disturbed by the avoidable internal leadership disputes and wrangling leading to damaging litigations with consequential detrimental effect on the unity and smooth running of the PDP as the major opposition party in the country.

“The Board, however, acknowledges and resolves to explore the window provided by the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, for reconciliation within the party. “The BoT is conscious of the interest and aspiration of our members who are desirous of contesting various positions in the 2027 general elections.

“Conscious of the onus on the BoT as the conscience and third highest leadership organ of the party, the Board has resolved to take immediate steps to reconcile all stakeholders, put an end to all disputes and restore the party to good political health, particularly to enable the PDP field candidates in the 2027 general elections. “The BoT constitutes a special Committee to immediately interface with the legal teams and any other stakeholders to foster reconciliation within the party.”

The board stated that it had appointed former Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, as its secretary. Aliyu replaces the former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi, who resigned as BoT secretary, recently.
