The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ekiti State, Dr Oluwole Oluyede, has accused government officials of harassing residents who turned out to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC), alleging that the incident was part of efforts to intimidate opposition supporters.

Speaking on the matter on ARISE News, Oluyede claimed that on June 3, government officials allegedly confronted Ekiti State indigents at a PVC collection centre, leading to a disturbance that escalated into violence.

According to him, several people were assaulted during the incident.

“There were reports that government officials went to harass people where they had gone to collect their PVCs. It led to a fracas and citizens were beaten up. In politics, scuffles and disagreements happen,” he said.

Oluyede further alleged that the matter was reported to the police, but claimed that the situation took a political turn after the intervention of top government officials.

“The incident was reported at the police station. On getting there, I was told that the deputy governor herself went to the station and ordered the arrest of people in the opposition party, including my cousin,” he alleged.

The PDP candidate insisted that the account was accurate, maintaining that he witnessed the events firsthand.

“It is the truth because I was there,” Oluyede stated.

The Ekiti State Government and the office of the deputy governor had not responded to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
