The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged killing of a 24-year-old man, Sefiu Kehinde, during a masquerade procession in Labiran, Ibadan.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Oluseyi Olayinka, the incident was reported at the Mapo Divisional Police Headquarters on Sunday after the victim was allegedly attacked by a masquerade identified as Asoleke and some of his followers.
Police said the report was made by Mrs. Aderemi, who stated that she received a distress call from her elder sister informing her that the masquerade and members of his entourage allegedly assaulted her younger brother with axes and cutlasses while parading through the area at about 4 p.m.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer at Mapo Division led a team of operatives to the scene. The victim was rushed to a hospital for treatment but was confirmed dead on arrival by the attending doctor.

Police said the crime scene was processed and documented, while photographs were taken as part of the investigation. The deceased’s family later requested the release of his body for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
The command confirmed that the masquerade, Asoleke, had been arrested, while four of his alleged followers remain at large.
Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbemiga has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation.
The police assured residents that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and urged members of the public to provide credible information that could aid the investigation.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across Oyo State, stressing that it would continue to take decisive action against all forms of criminality.
