Gives them 15 days for regularisation or face sanctions

The Governor Seyi Makinde-led government in Oyo State has issued a 15-day ultimatum and stern warning to owners of private schools, study centres, and continuing education centres, operating within the state without approval, to either seek formal approval or face sanctions.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof Salihu Adelabu, on Wednesday and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the government cautioned that it would no longer tolerate illegal schools and centres, operating within state borders.

The commissioner enjoined all school proprietors, operating without formal approval to visit the Ministry of Education for inquiries on the approval process between 4th October 2023 and 18th October 2023, or risk closure after the period.

Failure to comply, the commissioner warned, will lead to the immediate closure of illegal schools, study centres, and continuing education centres operating across the state.

His words: “The Ministry has noted with dismay the unbridled proliferation of Private Schools, Study Centers and Continuing Education Centers that are operating illegally without formal approval across the state.”

“Consequently, all school owners (Proprietors) are enjoined to visit the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Rooms 31, 33, 16A am 25 for enquiries on the approval process between now and Wednesday 18th October, 2023.

“Kindly be informed that operating a school, Study Centers and Continuing Education Centers without approval is an illegal act. The Ministry will no longer tolerate any illegal schools, Study Centers or Continuing Education Centers in Oyo State.

“Failure to respond to this notice will lead to immediate closure of Schools, Study Centers and Continuing Education Centers operating illegally across the state.”
