Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), will on Saturday graduate 4,024 students as part of activities marking its 50th Anniversary and 42nd Convocation Ceremony.

The Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Bashiru Garba announced this during a press briefing held at the Senate Chambers of the university.

He said the graduating class comprises 120 PhD holders, 323 master’s degree recipients, 20 postgraduate diploma holders, and 3,561 bachelor’s degree graduates drawn from the university’s 16 faculties.

According to him, 119 of the bachelor’s degree recipients earned First Class honours, while thousands more graduated with Second Class Upper, Lower and other classifications.

He said that the best graduating student for the 2023/2024 academic session will be unveiled during the convocation ceremony.

The VC said that the Faculty of Chemical and Life Sciences produced the highest number of graduates at 752, followed by the Faculty of Education and Extension Services with 723, and Agriculture with 364.

“This convocation is historic because it coincides with the golden jubilee of our university. From 93 pioneer undergraduates in 1977, UDUS has grown into a thriving community of over 23,000 students, more than 3,000 staff, and 98 academic departments”

He added that honorary degrees would also be conferred on Sheikh Muhammad Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya (Rtd.), while retired scholar Prof. Dejo Abdulrahman will be named Emeritus Professor.

The week-long anniversary and convocation programme includes cultural displays, a medical outreach, academic lectures, commissioning of projects, and a special convocation lecture, culminating in the grand award of degrees and honours on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

“This is not just a convocation, it is a celebration of five decades of resilience, scholarship, and service to humanity,” Prof. Garba added.
