The Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has visited the family of the late veteran Hausa actor, Mohammed Sani, popularly known as Tumbuleke, in Kaduna, describing his death as a great loss to Nigeria’s creative industry.
Musawa paid the condolence visit to the actor’s residence on Adamawa Road, Kaduna, where she sympathised with his family and acknowledged his decades-long contribution to Hausa comedy and television entertainment.
Tumbuleke, who died on August 11, 2026, at the age of 86 after an illness, was one of the notable Hausa actors who gained prominence through Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) productions in the 1980s.
Speaking with journalists after the visit, the minister said the federal government would explore ways of documenting and preserving the late actor’s contributions so that his work and impact would not be forgotten.
She said the visit was primarily to identify with the bereaved family and share in their grief, while also discussing how Tumbuleke’s artistic legacy could be preserved for future generations.
“We are here to share in the grief of the family and condole with them, as well as see how we can preserve his legacies and document them for the future,” Musawa said.
The minister explained that although she intended to have a comprehensive discussion with the family on the documentation of Tumbuleke’s legacy, time constraints prevented her from concluding the conversation.
“I had to sit with the family to discuss how we can document his legacies. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do that today. However, I will meet with the family to ensure that his enduring legacies are preserved,” she said.
Musawa also prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Tumbuleke’s career spanned several decades, with his performances contributing to the growth of Hausa comedy and indigenous television entertainment.
The late actor is survived by his wife and children.
