The Abia State Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Chief Peter Chigozie Azubuike, has said the influence of Governor Alex Otti has brought tremendous growth to the party in the state. He spoke during the declaration of Chief Charles Nwosu to contest the Obingwa West State Constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly. He revealed that within the past week, no fewer than 24 aspirants had indicated interest in contesting House of Assembly seats on the platform of the LP.

According to him, the development showed that the party was expanding in Abia and determined to sweep the polls in 2027.

Azubuike commended Nwosu for his decision to contest the seat and wished him success.

Speaking during his declaration, Nwosu expressed optimism that Governor Otti’s performance would ensure a landslide victory for the party in the next election.

“With the governor’s sweeping reforms and visible infrastructure development, particularly in road reconstruction and other critical sectors, no party will stand in the way of LP in Abia in 2027.

“While the Labour Party entered the 2023 elections like a sheep, it will approach 2027 like a lion, signalling a more aggressive and organised political force,” he stated.

Nwosu said he joined the race to correct the longstanding political imbalance in Obingwa West. He noted that the Ahiaba/Abayi bloc had not produced a House of Assembly member since 1999.

“My ambition is not just personal, but a collective movement for equity, fairness and justice,” he said.

He assured party members that if given the mandate to fly the party’s flag, his priority would be the welfare and advancement of the people of Obingwa West. Nwosu also pledged his loyalty to Governor Otti and support for the LP.
