Osun poll: Oyinlola endorses APM candidate Adebayo, dumps Adeleke

Osun poll: Oyinlola endorses APM candidate Adebayo, dumps Adeleke

Former Osun State Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has dumped Governor Ademola Adeleke and endorsed the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Adewale Adebayo, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

This development occurred 24 hours after some chieftains of the Accord Party and Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) to Governor Ademola Adeleke dumped the party and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to journalists at his residence in Okuku on Wednesday, Oyinlola said the claimed PDP–Accord alliance would not benefit the Accord Party or any other party, stressing that the “structure” would rather work for the APM.

Oyinlola said the meeting with the APM’s 2027 National and State Assembly candidates, led by Adebayo, was to acquaint them with candidates for the upcoming elections.

He added that the movement was a combination of the APM and the PDP, created to present a “formidable force” for the 2026 governorship and subsequent 2027 general elections.

He said the endorsement was for APM candidates only and not for any other party.

Oyinlola urged the candidates to work hard to ensure Adebayo’s victory.

Also speaking, Tajudeen Oladipo, the former National Vice-Chairman of the PDP, disclosed that some leaders had called him before the meeting to solicit his support, but he declined.

He said people had lost confidence in Accord and the APC, adding that the APM offered a better alternative and that they were “not in the race for fun”.

Fatai Akinbade, the former Secretary to the State Government, similarly urged the candidates not to treat the election as a game but to work diligently for victory.

Responding, Adebayo described the Osun election as a “litmus test” for 2027, saying winning Osun would send a signal ahead of the presidential bid of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

He said they had rejected offers and pleas from the APC and Accord, arguing that those parties had nothing to offer Osun apart from “ill-governance”.

He expressed confidence that, with support from PDP structures, they would win the election.
