The Concerned Muslim Stakeholders and the League of Alfas in Osun State have pledged support for All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15 election.

Speaking at the group’s annual Ramadan lecture and during distribution of President Bola Tinubu’s Ramadan packages at the Muslim Secretariat Complex in Osogbo, yesterday, the League’s president, Sheikh Qozeem AbdulRahaman, appealed for fair federal appointments for Muslims and urged continued support for the President.

“We recognise that the Muslim Ummah in Yorubaland has faced challenges, particularly regarding federal political appointments. We earnestly implore Mr. President to uphold principles of fairness and equity in the distribution of such opportunities, ensuring our community is adequately represented,” Sheikh AbdulRahaman said.

He argued that reciprocating the federal administration’s gestures would help sustain its programs in Osun, and raised concern that none of the 17 southern states has a Muslim governor. “For the sustainability of programmes such as this, initiated by our President, we must ensure our votes go to candidates who align with our faith — not those who cross religious lines merely for convenience,” he added.

Responding, Oyebamiji dismissed rumours that the APC would rely on federal influence to win the election, saying his record and conduct, rather than any external force, define his candidacy. He urged supporters to move beyond sentiment and ensure they get their voter’s card to vote.

“There is no way we can rely on federal might. We have consulted across the 30 local governments, met traditional rulers, men and women across the state. We will continue to work until we have the opportunity to be Governor of Osun State,” Oyebamiji said.

He called on residents to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from INEC, stressing that voter turnout is the decisive factor in changing the state government. “I appeal strongly that everyone should go to their ward to collect their PVC because it is the only instrument that can take the current government out of office,” he said.
