Hon. Joshua Mammah, the Senatorial candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has pledged to focus attention on the education of the children in Abuja as a way of delivering the dividends of democracy to both indigenes and residents alike.
The candidate, who pledged to spend only one term of four years, stressed that during his tenure, no child in the FCT would have any reason to hawk items during school hours or roam around the streets during school hours.
He stated this during the inauguration of his campaign organisation, warning that any parent whose child or children were caught roaming the streets during school hours would be prosecuted and subsequently jailed.
He further said, “We are going to win this election because our consultation is going on in a very smooth way. Even if you’re a master rigger in Nigeria, you will not rig in FCT.
“If not for the rascality in the country, somebody who has served in the National Assembly for 20 years does not have any reason to come back. We are on a salvation mission. After my tenure for four years, I will not come back; I will not print posters; I will not campaign; people will be clamouring for me to come back, but I will decline.
Turning to members of the campaign team, he said, “This is not the time to make money; it is a time to sacrifice your time and energy to work. Try as much as possible to manage the meagre resources. After four years, we will have indigenes of FCT studying abroad and in the country; they will study in China and everywhere.
“No child in FCT will be sent to learn carpentry; none of them will roam the streets during school hours. We are going to focus on education, education and education. If I see any child loitering around during school hours, the parents will be arrested and prosecuted.”
While adding his voice, the LP Candidate for the AMAC/ BWARI House of Representatives, Hon. Chimaobi Opara, said there is no room for failed politicians in the FCT, adding that most of those who have failed on their promises are those jostling to go back to the same position. “Come to talk of it, what exactly does someone who failed to perform in office forget that he would like to prove again? I don’t want to mention names, but we should be realistic about those who mean well for the people. It is obvious that the ruling APC has failed the people and should not pretend about it.”
Also, speaking, the Director-General of the campaign committee, Comrade Joseph Ways, stated that the committee is composed of men who are grounded in FCT politics and are ready to deliver on the mandate given to them.
“Our core mandate is to deliver the FCT to the LP come 2027. We are not going to go below what the party did in 2023; rather, we should go Beyond, and most importantly, we should ensure that our votes are protected this time around.”
