Peoples of Modakeke in Osun State have lamented deplorable state of roads in their community and urged the government of Ademola Adeleke to partner with them to enable them fix the roads.
Speaking at a press conference heralding the 40th Akoraye Day at Modakeke, yesterday, the chairman planning committee, Prince Tunmbi Toriola, lamented that the town is suffering infrastructural deficits which require urgent intervention of the government.
“While we celebrate our achievements, we must also confront the realities before us. Modakeke continues to suffer significant infrastructural deficits, particularly in road networks and other critical public utilities.
“Today, on behalf of the entire Modakeke community, we call on the Osun State Government to take immediate and strategic action to address dilapidated and impassable access roads, poor condition of community link roads, need for upgraded health facilities, improved and expanded water supply systems, modern drainage channels to prevent flooding, and enhanced security infrastructure.
“Our roads, in particular, have become a pressing concern. They affect commerce, emergency response, social mobility, and the overall well-being of residents. One of such is the bridge at Old Nepa Area, which has been repaired to a considerable stage, yet incomplete, left to destruction.
“Development is a shared responsibility. Modakeke has consistently demonlstrated its commitment to self-help development, but communities thrive best when government support strengthens local initiatives. It is therefore both appropriate and imperative that the state government partners with us to uplift the infrastructural landscape of this historic community.
“We remain open to strategic engagement, collaboration, and dialogue in the interest of development,” Toriola said.

Noting that peace has always been the backbone of Modakeke’s progress, Toriola appealed for peace across Modakeke, Ifeland, and its environs, saying “We must not give occasion for disruptors of peace to take advantage of our gathering.
“We recognize that festive seasons can sometimes present opportunities for elements who do not share our developmental vision to attempt disruptions.
“We appeal to all residents, visitors, and participants to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the celebration week and the year. Let us uphold the values of mutual respect, unity, and brotherhood that define Modakeke. No progress thrives in an atmosphere of tension, and we must never allow any individual or group to derail the legacy we have built for decades.
“We are a people of peace, our Akoraye Day is a product of unity, and a symbol of harmony. We are a community of peace-loving, patriotic citizens committed to growth and development. Security agencies have been adequately briefed, but the first duty of peace lies with the people. We ask everyone to cooperate with authorities and embrace peaceful coexistence,” Toriola said.
