On Saturday, June 27, violence was again unleashed on citizens particularly in Osogbo, the State capital and its environs where several residents sustained degrees of gunshot injuries.

Narrating his ordeal at the Akolapo Health Centre in Osogbo, Taoreed Mustapha, popularly known as Faronbi, said the incident occurred between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. in front of his parents’ residence.

He alleged that three motorcycles, each carrying three individuals, arrived at the scene before the attack took place.

Mustapha claimed that the attack was connected to his decision to defect from the Accord Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that he had received threats since leaving his former political platform.

Another victim, Ayoola Idowu, who works with a musical artist in Osogbo, also recounted his experience, claiming that he was shot by suspected political thugs in the Gbonmi area of the state.

Idowu, who said the attackers operated on motorcycles, pleaded for a thorough investigation into the incidents by security agencies and a decisive action to prevent further attacks.

It was also reported that political assailants armed with guns and dangerous weapons, went on rampage later in the evening of the same day, at Okinni, a town on the outskirts of Osogbo, where several residents were shot at including one of the Chiefs of the ancient town.

It is on record that not less than four residents were brutally attacked and sustained gunshots injuries at different locations in the town.

The alleged murder of a teenager in Ilobu, Ifelodun Local Government Area recently by suspected political hoodlums presumed to be loyal to the ruling party in the state vis-a-vis the failure of the government to unravel the mystery behind the death of the young boy, was another testament to the growing suspicion of the state government handling of security in the state.

As if all of these were not enough, Governor Ademola Adeleke under the guise of a condolence visit launched a slanderous attack on the person of Hon Oluwole Oke, a serving member of the House of Representatives and Director-General of the APC governorship campaign.

As Abraham Lincoln once said , you can tell the greatness of a man by what makes him angry was fully proved by the public outburst by Governor Ademola Adeleke where he openly cursed out the respected federal lawmaker, in what analysts have termed an act underpinned by fear and desperation of an incumbent governor who may have lost his grip on both party leadership and governance in the state.

On Wednesday, June 24, Governor Adeleke and his top team visited Esa-Oke in Obokun Local Government Area of the state, ostensibly to mourn, but allegedly with a different motive of blackmailing and engaging in character assassination against Hon Oluwole Oke, the Director-General of the APC governorship campaign team for political gains.

Governor Adeleke decided to take undue advantage of the pensive atmosphere around the bereaved family of Ajayi Rogba for a heartless vote-seeking opportunity and a campaign of calumny, rather than allowing security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ajay’s death.

The politically motivated outburst coming from the number one citizen of the state may have revealed the underbelly of a governor fast losing his grip on the rudder as the Chief Security Officer of the state.

The governor has been accused of shielding political thugs within the accuses providing incriminating photos and videos to support their claims. The almost daily attacks on members of the opposition APC across the state has also called into question the state of security in Osun State.

In the last few weeks, several politically-motivated violent attacks, some resulting in gruesome deaths across the nooks and crannies of the state by suspected political hoodlums allegedly working for the incumbent government, have been subject of public concerns.
Osun state which was until now known as a peaceful state is fast falling into disrepute because of the current administration’s alleged complicity in the already incidented cases.
