The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Osun State has officially refuted reports claiming that the party had adopted former Speaker, Dr. Najeem Salaam as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2026 election.
In a statement yesterday by Ekundayo Olatunde, Secretary of the Isokan Group within the Osun ADC, it was clarified that the party has not yet conducted its primary election, let alone endorsed any candidate.
Olatunde’s reaction came in response to an online article alleging that Salaam had been adopted following a significant vote held in Lagos on November 28. He denounced the purported endorsement as false and misleading.
“The online publication has generated significant uproar, disbelief and disaffection among ADC members in Osun,” Olatunde stated. He emphasised that the contentious decision was made by only one faction out of the three that contribute to the party’s composition in the state.
“For the benefit of the general public, ADC is a coalition of political interests nationwide. In Osun State, ADC includes members from the PDP (known as ‘Isokan’), APC (known as ‘Omoluabi’) and original ADC members,” he explained, asserting that the party is not owned by any individual or group.
He further reassured the public that as of the time of the statement, the Osun ADC had not held its gubernatorial primary election, deeming any contrary claims as fallacious.
Olatunde also emphasised that ADC would not repackage governance policies dismissed by citizens in the past, declaring that the alleged decision from Lagos was “totalitarian, dictatorial and disrespectful of internal democracy.”
He concluded by affirming the determination of ADC members to address the issue through the proper national and state party channels, underscoring their commitment to internal democracy and proper political engagement.
