From George Onyejiuwa, Owerri
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha said the recent defection of eminent businessman, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was not only a big asset to the political  party but also a benefit to the people of the South East.
This was even as Okorocha called  on other frontline politicians in the zone to emulate the wise decision  of the former  Abia State  governor.
Okorocha said he was glad that  political leaders in the East were beginning to respond positively to his clarion call to join  the APC.
In a press statement by his media aide, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, Governor Okorocha commended  Kalu for taking the bold step in identifying with the APC.
“With men like Orji Uzor Kalu joining me in the party, we would develop Igboland under APC as the ruling party. Orji Kalu as an illustrious Igbo son is a political asset any political party would like to have in its fold.
“I am urging other frontline politicians in the South East to emulate the wise decision of Dr. Orji Kalu in joining the APC where the action is and will continue to take place with good leadership which the party is determined to give Nigerians.”
The governor reiterated that in APC, there was nothing like old or new members because all the members were equal in terms of membership.
He assured that he would continue to work in tandem with all Igbo leaders in APC in the overall interest of the zone and her people.
He admonished the former Abia governor to ignore criticisms and attacks by some people over his decision to join the ruling party.
He said such people were grossly ignorant of the politics of the country and were still living in the past.
