Operation Kosaye: We’re frustrating criminals in Ogun, says Ojajuni

Ogun State

Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Bode Ojajuni, has reaffirmed the command’s determination to remain hostile to criminal elements, declaring that the police will continue to deny them any operating space within the state and along its borders.

The CP, who visited traditional rulers and key stakeholders across parts of Ogun State, highlighted the achievements of Operation Kosaye and advocated stronger police-community synergy, stressing that security is a shared responsibility requiring the active participation of every resident.

He also introduced stakeholders to the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Social Vices (POCACOV), the Nigeria Police Force’s flagship non-kinetic crime prevention initiative, and encouraged residents to maximise the Gateway Shield platform by promptly reporting suspicious activities. He assured them that every credible piece of information received would be treated professionally and acted upon without delay.

In a statement, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the visit formed part of the command’s sustained commitment to strengthening community policing, deepening public trust and fostering strategic partnerships for effective crime prevention.

“As part of the Command’s sustained commitment to strengthening community policing, deepening public trust, and fostering strategic partnerships for effective crime prevention, CP Bode Ojajuni paid a strategic familiarisation visit to the Ogbere Area Command. The visit featured high-level engagements with traditional rulers, local government authorities, sister security agencies, community stakeholders, and officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, all aimed at reinforcing collaborative policing and enhancing security across the area,” the statement said.

According to the police spokesman, accompanied by members of the Command Management Team, the CP commenced the visit with a royal courtesy call on the palace of the Oloko of Ijebu-Imusin, Oba S.A. Onafowokan, where he was warmly received alongside other royal fathers, including Oba M.A. Adenaike, the Oyebola of Igbaga; His Royal Majesty Oba I.O. Ajede, the Ogirimadagbo of Ilodo; and Oba B.J. Adetola, the Kunnusi of Idokunnusi, as well as members of the Council of Chiefs.

Speaking on behalf of the traditional rulers, the Oloko of Ijebu-Imusin described the visit as historic, noting that CP Ojajuni is the first serving Commissioner of Police to officially visit the town.

The monarch expressed appreciation for the prevailing peace in the community and commended the CP for the remarkable operational successes recorded under his leadership, particularly in foiling kidnapping attempts, recovering illegal firearms and retrieving stolen vehicles. He pledged the unwavering support of the traditional institution to the command.

Responding, Ojajuni appreciated the royal fathers for the warm reception and their steadfast support for the Nigeria Police Force.

He briefed them on the strategic implementation and achievements of Operation Kosaye, emphasising that the operation had further strengthened the command’s capacity to tackle violent crime and secure border communities.

Reiterating his commitment to protecting lives and property, the CP stressed the importance of timely intelligence gathering and information sharing in preventing crime and called for sustained collaboration with the traditional institution.

The police chief thereafter visited the palace of the Moyegeso of Itele, Oba Mufutau Kasali, where he was received by the monarch and members of the Moyegeso-in-Council.

The royal father described Ojajuni as the first sitting Commissioner of Police to officially visit Itele and commended his inclusive leadership and commitment to every community across Ogun State.

In his remarks, Ojajuni thanked the monarch for his unwavering support to officers serving within the Area Command and highlighted the operational gains of Operation Kosaye.

He assured the community of the command’s resolve to sustain proactive, intelligence-led and professional policing while appealing for continued partnership through credible intelligence capable of preventing criminal activities.

The CP later proceeded to the Ogbere Area Command Headquarters, where he was formally received by the Area Commander, ACP Sunday Oluwadare, alongside officers and personnel of the command.

Also in attendance were the Executive Chairman of Ijebu East Local Government, Dr Oluwakayode Kehinde; the Secretary to Ogun Waterside Local Government, Alhaji Okuwoga Adeyinka, representing the Executive Chairman; traditional rulers including Oba Obikoya Abidekun, the Oloni of Oni, and Oba Adetuwo Ogunjumelo, the Olupe of Ibuland; representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by the Ogbere Chairman, Comrade Bola Ogunsanya, and the Patron of PCRC Ijebuland, Tanimola Lawal; as well as representatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Ogbere Forest Guards, religious leaders and leaders of the Igbo and Hausa/Fulani communities.

Addressing the stakeholders, Ojajuni expressed appreciation for the overwhelming reception and specially commended the local government leadership for its consistent collaboration with the police in securing communities across Ijebu East and Ogun Waterside local government areas.

He also applauded the high level of inter-agency cooperation within the Ogbere axis, noting that despite the vast geographical stretch of the corridor, security challenges had continued to be effectively addressed through synergy among security agencies and community stakeholders.
