Apparently disturbed by the current hardship in the country, Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs has given succour to Anambra women by donating food items and other valuables to 1,768 women in the 21 local government areas of the state.

Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs. Uju Kennedy Ohanenye who distributed fertilizer, bags of rice and sewing machines to women in Awka, the state capital said the idea was to empower the beneficiaries with food and other items that would help them take care of their families.

Represented by Mike Ikegbuna, she commended Johnbosco Onunkwo Foundation for the gesture, noting that her ministry would continue to partner with the group to reach out to women at the grassroots: «We are trying to get the women engaged in agriculture and the Ministry has revamped the Anambra-Imo-River Basin to ensure that farmers especially rice farmers produce rice four times in a year and it will bring food sufficiency in Ananbra State.”

Spokesman of the Foundation, Emmanuel Ifediata said it provides comprehensive support to women by equipping them with skills, recourses and opportunities they need to thrive: «We are pleased to announce that since inception of our women empowerment scheme, we have reached over 1,768 women across the 21 local government areas of Anambra State. These women are now better equipped to contribute to their families.”

Ifediata said the foundation was also empowering women with sewing machine as part of training for them to diversify by engaging in meaningful businesses that would put food on their table: «We have developed a multifaceted approach to empowerment, encompassing agriculture, vocational training, entrepreneurship support and leadership development. Our foundation believes that the nation must be fed adequately before we can achieve economic stability.”
