Some women yesterday staged a peaceful protest in Akure, the Ondo State capital over the current economic hardship in the country.

The women, some of whom were widows and had their babies strapped to their back lamented the current economic situation in the country.

The protesters who carried placards with various inscriptions also chanted various solidarity songs during the protest.

They complained that many people in the state could no longer feed their families or fund their children’s education due to the level of poverty in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Mrs Folashade Adewumi, called on both the Ondo State Government and the Federal Government to consider women, especially widows for soft loans and palliatives, while also ensuring transparency in the intervention programmes.

Addressing the women protesters, Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on political and public policy, Mr Ademola Adewale, assured them that the governor had women in his administration’s plan and would not neglect them at any point.

Mr Adewale, who commended the women for the peaceful protest said their demands would be addressed appropriately with a view to ameliorating their sufferings
