Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Idris, and gunned down two suspected kidnappers during a fierce gun battle.

The operatives also recovered one AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to have been used to collect ransom, and other incriminating exhibits linked to the criminal gang.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who disclosed this in a statement, said the feat marked another major breakthrough in the Command’s sustained crackdown on kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.

According to him, the victim was abducted on June 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. when armed kidnappers stormed his residence in Okun Owa and whisked him away to an unknown destination.

“Upon receipt of the report, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, immediately directed the activation of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, supported by other tactical teams, to ensure the victim’s safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible for the crime.

“As a result of sustained intelligence-led operations and coordinated tactical pressure mounted on the kidnappers, the victim regained his freedom unharmed on July 3, 2026.

“Following the victim’s release, operatives intensified efforts to apprehend the kidnappers. Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives stormed the Agoro/Imodi axis. On sighting the police, the kidnappers engaged the operatives in a gun duel.

“The operatives responded decisively, leading to the neutralisation of two kidnappers, while other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds.

“A search conducted on the neutralised suspects led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be a ransom bag, and other exhibits linked to the criminal operation.

“The corpses of the neutralised kidnappers have been deposited at a government morgue for autopsy, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover additional exhibits.”

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the courage, professionalism and operational efficiency displayed by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams involved in the operation.

He reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to identifying, tracking and dismantling criminal networks operating within Ogun State.

The police boss also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support the Command with timely and credible information, assuring them that intelligence-led policing and robust tactical operations would be sustained to guarantee the safety of lives and property across the state.

He further encouraged members of the public to promptly report suspicious persons or activities through the Gateway Shield toll-free line and other emergency channels provided by the Command.
