Okpanam-Ibusa and Isheagu-Ewulu Roads Near Completion for Governor’s One-Year Celebration

From Paul Osuyi, Asaba

Two major roads linking communities in Delta State are set to be inaugurated as part of the activities marking the first year anniversary of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration. The roads are the 5.3-kilometre Okpanam-Ibusa road and the 9.1-kilometre Isheagu-Ewulu road.

During an inspection of the projects on Wednesday, Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads) Mr Charles Aniagwu reported that the roads are approximately 90% completed. He emphasized the importance of these roads in connecting major towns and boosting the socio-economic lives of the people in the area.

Aniagwu expressed satisfaction with the progress of the projects and directed the contractors to expedite their completion. He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing the installation of road markings and other essentials in preparation for the inauguration.

The Commissioner reiterated the governor’s commitment to delivering quality projects to Deltans in line with his M.O.R.E Agenda. He also mentioned that the Governor has outlined numerous projects and programs to mark his first year in office, including empowerment initiatives anchored by the Ministry of Humanitarian and Girl Child, as well as other ministries.

Aniagwu further explained the Governor’s commitment to ensuring that all projects are top-notch before commissioning. He stated that even if contractors claim projects are completed, the Governor wants them verified to ensure they have been built to specifications.

“We hope that in the next few days, they will complete the project and exit the site to enable us to carry out the final inspection,” Aniagwu said. “That’s the same approach the governor wants us to take with every project. He doesn’t just want to commission projects; he wants to ensure that any road being commissioned has been done according to specifications and provides value to the people of Delta by ensuring that the money paid equals the work done.”
