Delta Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged oil-bearing communities in the state to remain peaceful, so as to fully maximise investment opportunities by oil companies.
The governor, who spoke at the weekend, during a Town Hall meeting at Kwale, with the people of Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state, specifically thanked the people of the locality for their peaceful approach to issues.
“We are aware of the oil companies operating in your area. We encourage you to remain peaceful because, without peace, no project will be executed.
“And, with phase II of the IPP project, there will be constant electricity in Ndokwa West and industries will grow,” he said.
He commended the people of the locality, for following closely, the programmes of his administration, assuring them that the ministry of health would look at how to make the cottage hospital at Ndemili and Ugiliamai functional.
He stressed that construction of intra-city and inter-communal roads would enhance the socio-economic life of the people and that his urban renewal programme has made it such that a lot of intra-city roads are being constructed.
“We have noticed that there is a lot to do to renew our cities and towns. A lot of roads call for attention, but we have done a lot in that direction. We have earmarked internal roads in Ndemili for construction. We will also look at the Ndemili/Utagba-Uno Road. Construction is on at Ezionum/Abbi Road and with time, the Kwale/Ashaka Road will be dualised. We will continue to work for our people,” Okowa promised.
President-General of Ndokwa Neku Union (NNU), Chief Johnson Opone called on the governor to properly equip the Kwale Central Hospital, Ndemili, and Ugiliamai Cottage Hospital as they were vital to meeting the health needs of the people at the grassroots.
He listed several roads that should be constructed by the government in the area, to include the less than five kilometres Ugiliamai/Ossissa road, which links Ndokwa West and East councils, the Utagba-Uno/Ogume/Igbe/Obodeti road, and a host of others.
