The Ogun State Police Command has arrested 14 suspects for unlawful assembly and conspiring to breach the peace.
The command also recovered three locally made pistols, 11 live cartridges, four rounds of 9mm Beretta ammunition, charms, confraternity caps, one drum, which is part of the tools for cult initiation, 19 mobile phones, one Samsung laptop and nine vehicles of various brands.
Some of the recovered vehicles were said to be without registration plates while others were bearing unauthorised dealer number plates.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspects had been a threat to public peace across the Isara, Ipara and Ode axis.
The names of the suspects were given as Farooq Ogunsola (Solo Hot), Toheeb Abolade, Balogun Williams, Ayodele Abdulkareem, Adedapo Ogunsanya, Toheeb Saka and Akpan Dara.
Others are: Michael Olakemi, Habeeb, Olayinka, Dapo Adeola, Adetunji Adeyemi, Henry Kingsley and Nanso Blessings.
“Today, it was revealed that members of the Eiye Confraternity had gathered in large numbers at a bush location in Ipara-Remo, Ogun State, planning to initiate new members and conspire to breach the peace through unlawful assembly.
“Acting swiftly, a joint team of operatives from the Anti-Cultism Unit and the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), supported by personnel from Ipara/Isara divisions conducted a coordinated sweep operation, arresting 14 suspects, comprising 13 males and one female.
“The suspects are undergoing investigations, and will be charged to court soon, upon completion of the investigation,” Babaseyi said.
