Ogun First Lady pledges to support humanitarian deeds in Ojodu community

Wife of Ogun State governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, has made a heartfelt commitment  to support humanitarian deeds of the Rotary Club of Ojodu based on the club’s special focus on women’s health and several life-touching programmes  to improve the welfare of indigent Nigerians.

Mrs Abiodun, who was represented by Mrs Omotola Yusuf on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the official installation ceremony of Rotarian Ijeoma Nwosu as its 19th president, commended the humanitarian efforts of the  club within the community.

She expressed her strong desire to support the club, because of their dedication  to serving the most vulnerable and marginalized members of society.

The  governor’s wife stated that the club recognised the pressing need in the society  and has been able to impact its host community and  equally extended their activities to the surrounding communities of Ogun State.

Nwosu said that she  plans to raise more than ₦19 million to support a range of projects.The event also marked the inauguration of the club’s board for the 2023/2024 Rotary year and served as a fundraising opportunity for various projects.

Nwosu added that the Rotary Club of Ojodu, is within Rotary International District 9110, Nigeria, and it is one of the dynamic part of a network comprising over 150 clubs spanning Lagos and Ogun states.

She noted that the club has consistently undertaken significant and impactful initiatives.This year, their ambitious goal is to raise more than ₦19 million to support a range of projects. These initiatives encompass registration and payment of WAEC /JAMB fee and employment of part time, sponsoring three first year students in federal universities with  micro credit scheme for 20 market women /SME owners, disease prevention, cervical cancer vaccination for 30 girls in Ojodu/Isheri schools and communities.

She outlined other key focus and project for the next one year, which includes donation of 10 wheel chairs to polio victims, women/children, mental health awareness billboard, counseling/trainings on community policing among executives of estates in Ojodu Isheri area, joint service projects with other clubs within the cluster, water sanitation and hygiene, distribution of biodegradable menstrual and sanitary pads to girls in schools and communities, renovation of Power line public health center, uterine fibroids management/surgeries for two women, donations of items to new mother’s and a day old babies in hospital, HIV awareness campaign, prenatal and post natal insurance for 80 women, maintaining and rebranding of botanical gardens at Isheri and Ojodu Grammar school and repainting of toilet facility at Isheri.

Nwosu emphasized the importance of addressing the challenges and needs in the community through their service project as Rotarians who have seven ways of focus.She plans to work closely with local organisations, charities and volunteers, aiming to create a sustainable and inclusive environment for all residents in their host community.

As the club’s president, she aims to use her platform to raise awareness and galvanize support for various humanitarian causes. By leveraging her position and influence, she hopes to inspire others to join in these efforts and make a positive change.

Furthermore, she plans to establish partnerships with key stakeholders, including businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies, to develop innovative programmes and initiatives that effectively addresses the pressing issues faced by the community. She will actively collaborate with these partners to identify strategic solutions, allocate resources, and implement initiatives aimed at uplifting and empowering individuals and families.

The District Governor, Ifeyinwa Ejezie, encouraged the club to continue championing Rotary’s mission of global goodwill and extended her congratulations and support to the newly inaugurated president.

Among the attendees were esteemed individuals such as Past District Governor Jide Akeredolu, Assistant Governor of the Club, Rotarian Idowu Afelogun, His Royal Majesty,The Olojodu of Ojoduland ,Oba Samuel Shobowale Benson,Lolo Celestina Obioha, Mr Emmanuel Agu guest speaker at the event.

The event drew a diverse crowd, including Rotarians, friends of Rotary, and even non-Rotary members.
