2027: Re-elect Tinubu, Otu for Bakassi seaport, highway – Shettima

Vice-President Kashim Shettima

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has urged residents of Cross River State to re-elect President Bola Tinubu and Governor Bassey Otu in 2027, promising that the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport and Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be delivered.

Shettima gave the assurance on Monday while representing Tinubu at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally held at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

He thanked the people of Cross River for supporting the Tinubu administration over the past three years, describing the relationship between the government and the electorate as “an alliance of prosperity, an alliance of opportunity”.

“Over the past three years, you have shown us support, and you have resisted the lies and propaganda intended to misrepresent us,” he said.

The Vice-President called on voters to renew the mandates of Tinubu, Otu and other APC candidates seeking election into the National Assembly and the Cross River State House of Assembly.

He said the party was seeking another mandate based on its record in office, adding that elected leaders must remain accountable to the people who entrusted them with power.

On infrastructure, Shettima said the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway would connect coastal communities, ease the movement of people and goods, promote tourism and attract investment to the region.

He added that the project would create thousands of direct and indirect jobs and open up economic opportunities for communities along its route.

Speaking on the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport, Shettima said the project had received Federal Government approval and would become an international maritime gateway when completed.

“When completed, it will become an international maritime gateway. It will attract shipping companies. It will generate employment,” he said.

He described the seaport and coastal highway as key projects that would position Cross River as a major player in Nigeria’s maritime economy.

On education, the Vice-President said the Federal Government’s student financing initiative would strengthen human capital development, reduce the financial burden on parents and widen access to higher education.

He said the intervention was designed to ensure that financial difficulties did not prevent young Nigerians from pursuing their education.

Shettima urged Cross River residents to support the APC in the 2027 elections, saying another term for Tinubu and Otu would provide an opportunity to advance the proposed infrastructure projects and other development plans for the state.
