A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Bolaji Adeniji, has declared that the exit of Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello from the party will not affect the fortunes of the APC and its governorship candidate, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, in the 2027 general election.

He described departure of Obasanjo-Bello as “inconsequential, her exit has not caused any rancour in the party, rather, it has made it stronger, more united and more focused. She had announced her exit from the party citing disrespect and maltreatment of his supporters.

Adeniji said in Abeokuta, yesterday: “The exit of Iyabo Obasanjo from the APC following her unsuccessful bid for the APC gubernatorial ticket is inconsequential. She has no investment in the party, no stake in its growth, and no contribution to its electoral goodwill; therefore, her departure changes nothing and will not in any measure, affect the fortunes of YAYI and the APC.

“The party remains strong, united, and focused on victory. The party will not be treated as an emergency platform of convenience to pursue self-seeking ideologies at the expense of patriots who have laboured to build it and delivered good to the people.”

He slammed the governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP, Oladipupo, “rather than Adebutu to campaign on the strength of his electoral credentials and plans for Ogun people, they have rather chosen to resurrect the long buried and malicious issue about the indigeneship of Adeola.

“Let me be unequivocal on this. This narrative of ‘non-indigene’ is dead, defeated, and irrelevant in Ogun State politics today. Adeola is a genuine son of Yewa, Ogun State. Anyone who refuses to engage him on policy and programmes but instead clings to stale allegations, is merely dancing naked in the city square.

“The people have moved on, and the conversation today is about the dividends of democracy that the senator has been offering and the huge expectation of what he is set to offer the people from 2027.

“Adeola represents competence, vision, and progress. Yayi is firmly focused on his forthcoming campaigns. He will soon present to the people of Ogun State his lofty manifesto and economic blueprint.

“His plans are designed to bring exponential growth, development, and progress to the Gateway State. His popularity and acceptability are not manufactured. It was earned through years of service, dedication and results.”
