Ogun 2023: Diaspora group endorses Abiodun’s reelection bid

Donates campaign souvenirs, launches song

From Laide Raheem, Abeokuta

A group, the Ogun State Diasporans, has declared its readiness to work for the reelection bid of the state governor, Dapo Abiodun and his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

The group announced its endorsement at a press conference held at the Ogun State All Progressives Congress Campaign Council Secretariat, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Speaking on behalf of the diaspora group, the Coordinator, Olayemi Ogundele, explained that the group had always endorsed its preferred candidates online and in the media, noting Governor Abiodun was the first person to be physically endorsed in the state.

He declared that the Governor Abiodun-led administration had embarked on massive infrastructural development of the state, job creation, youth employment and other meaningful achievements, hence, the group’s support for the governor’s reelection.

Ogundele, who said the governor has made Ogun envy of other states in terms of the delivery of good governance, disclosed that the Ogun Diasporans would be willing to partner with the state government in its efforts to a higher pedestal.

While noting that Ogun has the highest number of Nigerian professionals abroad, he said that members of the group were prepared not only to bring more investors into Ogun but to equally invest in the state.

“If permitted, we would help the government to develop a diaspora village. The government only needs to provide the land, and we would establish a city with a decent and affordable housing project. Recently, we have facilitated a N16.5m project sponsored by David Alaba of Real Madrid FC.

“The greatest asset of Ogun is neither mineral resources nor agriculture, but human resources. Ogun State indigenes are the most successful Nigerians in the Diaspora. The best medical doctor, the best engineer and the best investors are all from Ogun state. It is time for the state government to harness these opportunities and work closely with we Diasporans to take the state to the next level”, Ogundele stated.

He, however, said that the pet project of the group, Adire Carnival, has become the biggest Yoruba cultural event outside the shores of Nigeria, adding that the carnival had helped in the promotion of tourism and the cultural heritage of the people of Ogun.

Ogundele, while announcing the donation of some campaign souvenirs and song courtesy of the Diasporans, stated that the group would soon embark on another project tagged ‘Project 2023’, aimed at mobilising support for the APC presidential candidate, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abiodun and other candidates of the party, at the poll.

In his response, the Deputy Administrative Secretary, Ogun APC Campaign Council, Ayo Somide, lauded the group for its decision to throw its weight Tinubu, Governor Abiodun and all the APC candidates, assuring that the group’s support would not be taken for granted.

Somide further urged the Ogun Diasporans to continue to mobilise members to come back home and invest, noting that the incumbent administration in the state has enhanced the ease of doing business and made Ogun attractive to both local and foreign investments.
