Lagos car dealer laments as fire destroys over ₦700m worth of cars

Lagos car dealer fire outbreak

A car dealer in Lagos has lamented the loss of over ₦700 million worth of vehicles after a fire outbreak razed his car lot, destroying cars belonging to him and some of his customers.

The dealer, in a video circulating on social media, said the incident destroyed his personal vehicles valued at over ₦500 million, as well as cars belonging to customers who had yet to take delivery of their purchases.

Recounting how the fire started, he said he closed his office at about 10 p.m. before receiving a call from his security guard around 2 a.m., alerting him to the incident.

He explained that he subsequently checked his security cameras and was shocked to see the fire spreading across the premises.

Describing the extent of the damage, the dealer said, “My cars worth over ₦500 million,” lamenting the loss of his vehicles and those belonging to his customers.

According to him, efforts to contain the fire were unsuccessful despite attempts to put it out with water and the use of more than 10 fire extinguishers available at the car lot.

The dealer expressed distress over the scale of the destruction, particularly the loss of customers’ vehicles that were still in his custody.

The incident has sparked reactions online, with concerns over the financial losses suffered by the dealer and the affected customers.
