Senator Adams Oshiomhole has criticised former Anambra State Governor and Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi over his record in office, arguing that he failed to address the state’s challenges during his eight-year tenure.
Oshiomhole questioned Obi’s capacity to lead Nigeria, particularly his promise to serve only one four-year term if elected president in 2027.
The former Edo State governor made the remarks at an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Cross River State, where he urged residents to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Taking a swipe at Obi, the senator asked how the former governor intended to transform Nigeria within four years when, according to him, he had failed to fix Anambra during his eight years in office.
“If Peter Obi could not fix Anambra State in eight years, how can he look you korokoro in the eye and say he will do it in four years?” he asked.
Oshiomhole also criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, accusing the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of spending much of his time outside Nigeria and returning mainly during election periods.
“Atiku, who lives in Dubai, only comes home at the eve of every election. When he loses this one, as he will lose, in January or by February, Atiku will be back in Dubai,” he said.
The senator used the rally to highlight what he described as the achievements of the Tinubu administration, particularly in Cross River State.
He said the state’s recognition as an oil-producing state, following the resolution of its non-littoral status, would increase its revenue and improve its economic prospects.
On education, Oshiomhole praised the Federal Government’s student loan scheme, saying it had created opportunities for young people whose parents could not afford their tuition fees.
He argued that financial difficulties should not prevent students from accessing higher education, describing the scheme as part of Tinubu’s efforts to expand educational opportunities.
The senator also cited the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, saying its completion would create economic opportunities and accelerate development in Cross River State.
Defending the administration’s economic policies, he backed the abolition of multiple exchange rates, arguing that the previous system allowed people to access foreign exchange at different rates depending on their connections.
He said the current arrangement had established a uniform exchange rate, adding that implementing the reforms required courage and visionary leadership.
Oshiomhole urged Cross River residents to reject opposition parties and support the APC, expressing confidence in the party’s political strength in the state.
“Today, tomorrow, and forever, I believe APC has come to stay in Cross River, and together we will advance the growth and development of Nigeria,” he said.
