Second Republic Senator and first black man to get First Class in Computer Analytical Studies from the prestigious Harvard University, USA, Senator Dr. Ofia Nwali, will be buried on the 28th April, 2017 in his hometown, Ebonyi State.
In the burial arrangement exclusively released by the first son, Mr. Oguzokanu Nwali, to Daily Sun, the remains of the late senator will be committed to mother earth on 28th April after church service at his compound, Amajim Ameka in Ezza South local government area of Ebonyi State.
Oguzokanu Ofia Nwali said “With deep sense of sorrow but with gratitude to almighty God for life well spent, Late Sen. Dr. Offia Nwali will be buried on the 28 April, 2017 at his Amajim Ameka, Ezza South council area of Ebonyi state.
The statement further read “I write to formally notify you of the passing away of our beloved father, Late Sen. Dr Offia Nwali on the 22nd May, 2016 at the age of 74. He was born on the 2nd February, 1942 to the family of Nwali Offia in Amajim Ameka, Ezza South council area of Ebonyi State”
Information as released by the deceased first son concerning the burial indicates that Senator Nwali will begin his final journey on Tuesday 25th April, 2017 with a Public lecture in his honour at the International Conference Centre, Abakaliki while his body will leave the Federal Teaching Hospital mortuary on Wednesday 26th April, 2017 to his country home, Amajim Ameka in Ezza South council area of the state for internment on 28th April, 2017.
Daily Sun reported that Senator Ofia Nwali, a second republic senator died on the 22nd May, 2016 at the age of 74 and has been in the mortuary while arrangements for his burial were ongoing.
He represented Abakaliki Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Lagos between 1979-1983 and was the first person to submit a written request for the creation of Ebonyi state on 10th October, 1979 to the then National Assembly, Tafawa Balewa square, Lagos.
He attended Native Authority Elementary School in the then Ezza local government area from 1947-1952, Government College Umuahia 1953-1957 (WASC), (H.S.C. by University of Cambridge).
Senator Ofia Nwali also attended Brown University Province, Rhode Island United States 1960-1963 (B. Sc), Harvard University, Cambridge Massachusetts U.S.A 1963-1966 where he became the first black man to obtain Ph.D in Computer Studies from Harvard University.
Sadly, Senator Ofia Nwali lost his first wife, Uche Ofia Nwali and his seven children including a two week old baby in a plane crash at Emene, near Enugu in 1983. His family was on board the ill fated FOKER 28 where 53 passengers were killed and Ofia Nwali lost all his first family on board the plane. Ends
