At yesterday’s The Sun Newspapers Awards night, various awardees who spoke straight from the heart, individually expressed what the honour meant to them, with a good number of them suggesting that the gesture would spur them to do more for humanity.

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has maintained that public funds should be used for public good. Obi, who said this while receiving The Sun Political Icon of the Year award, informed that he was dedicating the honour to all the suffering Nigerians who did not know where their next meal would come from.

“I thank the management of The Sun for this honour. I was the first governor to win The Sun Man of the Year award in 2006 – 2007 (season) and when I was told of this one, I didn’t ask any questions. I dedicate this award to all the suffering Nigerians who don’t know where the next meal will come from and Nigerians should pray to God to help the government use public money for public good,” he said.
