Obaseki upgrades school feeding programme in Edo

OBASEKI

As the Federal Government’s National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP) kicks off in two local government areas in Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki has upgraded the scheme to ensure more pupils are provided with food to keep them in school.

The governor ensured this by mandating that instead of pupils in primary one to three benefitting from the scheme, those in higher classes, primary four to six, are also included, to ensure everyone in the schools participating in the programme is provided with food.

NHGSFP Programme Manager, Doris Ayanka-Imalele, made the disclosure during a workshop for caterers under the scheme in the state.

She thanked the governor for his support and commitment to the programme, to ensure more children are catered for in schools.

She said: “Governor Obaseki supported the scheme by ensuring pupils in primary 4 to 6 are included in the programme, as against that of the federal government, which takes care of only those from primary 1 to 3.”

She encouraged the caterers to focus on their jobs, as posting letters would be released, indicating which schools they have been assigned.

Focal Person of the Social Investment Programme in the state, Ms. Osayuwamen Aladeshelu, said over 60 schools will benefit from the NHGSFP in Uhunmwode and Orhionmwon councils, adding that over 261 caterers have been engaged and would earn daily income from the programme.
