The Chairman of Kaduna South Local Government, Hon. Rayyan Hussein, has appealed to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to deploy more medical personnel and science-based corps members to the council area to help bridge critical manpower gaps in healthcare and education.

Represented by Dr. Muhammad Meidugu, the chairman made the call on Saturday during the NYSC fourth-quarter Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) held at Matazu Road, Tudun Wada, Kaduna.

“We are appealing for the redeployment of more doctors, more nurses and more medical personnel to our local government so that we can strengthen our primary healthcare centres.

“We also need corps members with science backgrounds to fill the gap in our primary schools because of inadequate science teachers and we are currently unable to recruit new staff. We are looking up to the NYSC to help us close this gap, he said.

He added that while Kaduna South already benefits from several NYSC programmes, manpower support remains a top priority.

Beyond personnel needs, the chairman further appealed for wider coverage of the medical outreach across the council.

“This constituency is the first to benefit from the programme. For the first quarter of 2026, we appeal that the outreach be extended to other constituencies such as Kakuri, Television, or Barnawa.

“Our area is highly diverse, and taking the intervention to more communities will ensure that different groups benefit,” he added.

The Sarkin Kwarai of Sabon Gari/Tudun Wada, Alhaji Auwalu Matawalle, who also spoke at the event, expressed deep gratitude for the free medicines provided to residents.

“If we were to buy these medicines with our own money, many people would not be able to afford them.

“We appreciate the donors and pray that God rewards them and replenishes their pockets,” he noted.

Earlier the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Efeke Murna Dadaza, represented by the Assistant Director for Deployment and Relocation, Mr. Muhammad Usman, said the initiative was designed to make essential healthcare accessible to underserved communities.

“The programme aims to provide good health services that may not be readily available to rural dwellers.

“Under Community Development Service, corps members who are health professionals are mobilised to carry out medical interventions for host communities,” he said.

The event marked the fourth-quarter edition of the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, which offers free consultations, drugs, health talks and referrals to residents.
