Nigeria has recorded its fourth consecutive month of compliance with its Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) crude oil production quota, with crude output rising to 1.5 million barrels per day (bpd) in August 2026.
The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), in a statement signed by its Head, Media and Corporate Communications, Eniola Akinkuotu, over the weekend, said the country produced 1,500,190 bpd of crude oil, excluding condensates, in August.
It said total oil production, including condensates, stood at 1,677,777 bpd during the month, representing a 0.4 per cent increase from the 1,671,456 bpd recorded in July.
According to the commission, the latest figures marked the fourth consecutive month in which Nigeria met its OPEC crude oil production quota.
NUPRC said daily production ranged from a low of 1.64 million barrels per day to a high of 1.71 million barrels per day during the month.
The commission attributed the improvement largely to the resolution of operational challenges affecting the Single Buoy Mooring (SBM) at the Erha field, which had impacted production and evacuation activities in the previous month.
It said the restoration of normal evacuation and production operations at the field contributed to the modest increase recorded in August.
The NUPRC added that other producing assets remained relatively stable during the period, while operators continued to focus on improving production efficiency, maintaining asset integrity and minimising operational disruptions.
Production data released by the commission showed that Bonny recorded an average crude output of 320.04 thousand barrels per day, while Forcados produced 317.40 thousand bpd.
Qua Iboe recorded an average of 171.72 thousand bpd, Escravos 131.71 thousand bpd, while Bonga recorded 92.50 thousand bpd during the month.
“While the increase recorded in August was modest, it reflects the industry’s continued efforts to address operational bottlenecks and restore affected production capacity. Stakeholders remain focused on enhancing asset reliability, improving operational resilience and advancing intervention programs to support sustained production growth in the coming months.
“The August performance highlights the importance of timely resolution of operational constraints, effective asset management practices, and continued collaboration among industry stakeholders in safeguarding and improving Nigeria’s crude oil production capacity, NUPRC stated.
