Fertility experts to converge in Abuja as Nigeria hosts 2nd AFFS and 16th AFRH annual international conference

Fertility experts from Africa, America, Europe, and Nigeria will converge in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria, for an international fertility conference seeking to advance human reproduction.

The conference, which will have a record of about 1,000 fertility and reproductive health professionals from Africa and around the world, is expected to be held from 24th–26th September 2026 for the 2nd African Federation of Fertility Societies (AFFS) and 16th Association for Fertility and Reproductive Health (AFRH) Annual International Conference, Abuja 2026.

Dr Ibrahim Wada, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, said at a press conference in Abuja that bringing AFFS, AFRH, ESHRE, ASRM and IFFS together in Abuja creates an important bridge between African expertise and global advances in reproductive medicine.

“Our goal is to strengthen collaboration and translate scientific progress into better and more accessible fertility care for patients across Africa.”

Alongside the scientific programme, delegates will have opportunities to experience Nigerian culture and hospitality through social and networking activities.

The conference, which has the theme “Fertility Frontiers: Global Innovations and Advances in Human Reproduction”, will have the participation of three leading international reproductive medicine organisations, such as the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) and International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS).

Dr Wada, however, stressed that the conference will be used as a springboard to announce Nigeria’s ability to reverse medical tourism.

Professor Preiye Fiebai, President of the Association for Fertility and Reproductive Health (AFRH), remarked that the participation alongside AFFS and AFRH will bring African and international experts together to share knowledge, strengthen professional collaboration, and explore how advances in reproductive medicine can improve safe, ethical, high-quality, and accessible fertility care across Africa.

He said the three-day scientific programme will feature keynote addresses, plenary sessions, scientific presentations, panel discussions, and specialised training.

Discussions will cover advances in assisted reproductive technology (ART), embryology, fertility research, emerging technologies, ethical and patient-centred care, fertility data and reproductive health policy.

The conference will also provide opportunities for African researchers and practitioners to present their work, develop international collaborations, and contribute to global discussions on the future of reproductive medicine.

Dr Sunday Onuh, Nigeria, is actually moving higher in terms of medical science. Co-chairman of the Local Organising Committee, he notes that the conference will present a great deal of scientific exhibition from experts all over the world.

Experts across Africa who indicated interest in attending the conference while speaking virtually include Dr Eastaintine Gwey-Bell from Cameroon and Dr Athanase Sodjnedo from the Republic of Benin. Also, Mohammed Khrouf from Tunisia and Rudolph Adageoba from Ghana.
