From Jude Chinedu, Enugu
The Nigerian Youth Organisation (NYO), has inaugurated the Enugu State executive to pilot its affairs in the state for the next one year
The event which was held at Predia Hotel Enugu was attended by different youth organizations, women groups, the clergy, traditional rulers among others.
Speaking during the event, the new state Chairman, Amechi Agu, noted that his emergence as leader in Enugu was a new dawn for the organization in the state as he would pursue a seven-point agenda which will transform youths in the state.
He said, “The young ones of our age range must imbibe creativity, be hardworking and avoid dubious characters. Our youths are diverting from doing the proper thing because of their ambition to get quick money.
“The seven-point agenda is meant to bring about serious engagement. The youths of Enugu State under me will be able to develop capacity. We will work together to make sure that we achieve great things for ourselves and for the state.
The National President of the organization, Duke Alamboye, who witnessed the inauguration, commended the new executive for their emergence, urging them to work towards the interest of the youths.
“I am very impressed with the inauguration today. When I came in, I was saddled with the responsibility of establishing the state chapters and that’s what I am doing. During democracy day, we used that day to celebrate and inaugurate the national executives and the state Chairmen.
“So I am very proud of the Enugu State Chairman. Within two months, he has been able to put up a working committee for the Enugu State NYO and we are here to inaugurate them. Enugu State is one of the hubs in Nigeria, so we expect a lot from them,” he said.
On his part, the Chairman of the Occasion, Prof Chijioke Osim urged the new executive to continue to strive on the path of excellence, adding that he will continue to offer support to the youth body.
“I expect the new leaders of the organization to deliver their best to the state and to the nation. We are going to continue to guide them. We will always support to achieve higher mandates.
“I also want to advise Nigerian youths and South East youths to shun drugs and violence. These have no place in human development. I believe that there will be more programmes by NYO to address this,” he said.
