Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru, has charged security agencies in the state to remain professional in safeguarding lives and property.

He gave the charge yesterday while distributing operational vehicles to security agencies at the Government House, Centenary City, Abakaliki.

Nwifuru urged the agencies to remain focused, especially during the political season, warning that opposition parties could seek to distract them with allegations and other provocations.

“I want to charge security agencies to be more vigilant. Don’t relax based on your achievements. Be more alert and proactive; let our enemies not have their way.

“This is a political period and we know that opposition parties are willing to complain. They are ready to level allegations against you.

“Be professional as security agencies. Forget the allegations, face reality and deal with the facts. God Almighty will speak for you. I want to assure you of our support and the support of everybody in this great state,” he said.

The governor assured the agencies of continued government support to enable them perform optimally, noting that this informed the provision of the new operational vehicles.

“We will continue to support you and stand by you, and that is what motivated us to commit these huge resources to making these vehicles available to you,” he said.

Nwifuru reiterated his commitment to democratic ideals that strengthen institutions, promote transparency, accountability and citizen participation.

According to him, democracy flourishes when institutions are strong and citizens are empowered to participate meaningfully in governance.

“The essence of government is to provide a conducive environment, and we have been doing that. Our rural areas are witnessing tremendous infrastructural development, and that is the essence of governance.

“In this state, if you move out of the capital, there are communities that look like urban centres. We have done this in Iboko, Afikpo and Uburu. We are developing many communities and institutions, but we are not media-compliant, and that is why some people speak without knowing the facts,” he stated.
