The North West states are planning to establish electricity plant to boost energy supply to the people of the area

Director General of Kebbi Investment Promotion Agency (KIPA), Dr. Muhammad Kabir Kamba disclosed this at a press conference in Birnin Kebbi.

Kamba also disclosed that since 2023 when the agency was established, it has attracted global investors with commitment worth about $4.10billion across all sectors.

According to him, “The agency has continued to position Kebbi as a competitive investment destination and gateway to the West African market through strategic engagements, partnerships and advocacy initiatives.

“This include strengthening partnerships with national institutions such as Nigeria Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), Bank of Industry (BOI), African Export-Import (AFRIEXIM) Bank and Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), among others, to align Kebbi State with national and regional investment framework.

“We have successfully hosted the maiden Kebbi Investors Forum (KIF) 2026, which attracted global attention and positioned Kebbi State as a credible investment destination.

“The event received investment commitment valued at approximately $4.10 billion across key sectors, including Mining, Renewable Energy (solar and EV mobility), manufacturing, agribusiness and agro-processing, transport and logistic infrastructure.”

Kabir noted that the agency had successfully linked the domestic and foreign investors together, which has resulted in joint ventures and expanded cross- border investment best practices.

While responding to questions on regional collaboration, Kamba disclosed that all the investment promotion agencies in the seven North West states of Nigeria were working hard to establish a joint energy plant that would be serving their people.

He said: “In the North West, we have started to have synergy to have a common electricity energy in all the seven states in the North West. This will enable us to reduce the risk and the burden.

“We have registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and our office is located at the Governors’ Forum’s office. We are praying that before the end of this year, we will come up with the blue print on the project.”

He explained that a larger number of investors had been attracted to the state, stressing that one company would start to assemble electrical vehicles and motorcycles in the state.

He added that Kebbi, under the leadership of Gov Idris, has steadily positioned the state as an investors-friendly destination and the gateway to other West African nations.
