The Federal Government has disbursed more than ₦600 billion in cash transfers to vulnerable Nigerians over the past three years, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, has said.
Doro disclosed this on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, saying the intervention had reached slightly more than 10 million households.
“We’ve done over 600 billion in cash transfers to be able to support vulnerable Nigerians within three years. We have reached slightly over 10 million households,” he said.
The minister’s disclosure comes as the government moves to strengthen its social protection programmes through the $1 billion Renewed Hope Social Protection Programme.
The new initiative is designed to complement existing interventions by providing vulnerable households with support aimed at improving their ability to achieve long-term economic stability.
Doro said the government was reviewing its approach to poverty reduction to ensure interventions produce measurable outcomes rather than provide temporary relief alone.
