A nursing mother, Tariebi Grace Bodi, aged 20, has narrated how her three-weeks old baby was allegedly ‘kidnapped’ by her proposed mother-in-law and the father of the baby in Yenagoa and taken to Osun State without her consent.

Grace, from Sabagreia in Kolokuma/ Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State is appealing to well-meaning Bayelsans and Nigerians and security agencies to help her rescue her child and return her to Yenagoa.

Speaking at her residence at Edepie in Yenagoa, she explained how the father of the baby identified as Olwaseun Owosho who was born and bred in Yenagoa had come for an introduction ceremony before relocating to Osun State.

According to her, trouble started after she gave birth on February 1 and her proposed mother-in-law, identified as Mrs Serifat came to the house and insisted on having access to the child and went to the extent of using the Police at Akenfa Police station to harass her and her parents.

Grace disclosed that after a peace meeting at the Akenfa Police, it was agreed that while Grace’s mother (Mrs Bodi) should oversee the postpartum care, Mrs Serifat can care for the new baby at her house, also at Edepie.

‘’ On the fateful day she came to the house around 9am and said she is going to take the child to her house to play with her and bring her back by 12 pm. She went out with the baby and after an hour I called her but she did not pick the call. Then after about two hours I became alarmed when she was not picking. Then after a while the next phone call I received was from Seun who was taunting me that he has collected his child and that they are in Osun State.”

Several calls made to the phone numbers of Oluwaseun and Mrs Serifat were not answered but through several voice notes they sent to Grace, they confirmed that they had taken the child to Osun State.

Mrs Serifat was heard from the voice notes sent to Grace, boasting that she has lawyers and the Police to ensure the latter does not have custody of the child.

A distraught Grace and her parents are calling on law enforcement and other agencies to come to their aid to rescue her child.

At the Bayelsa State Police Command, the Gender Office at the State CID where the matter was referred to confirmed the story and said the Police are on top of the case doing everything to rescue the child.
