The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has tasked nurses on the need to maintain high ethical standards in order to promote good health.

The Registrar/CEO, NMCN, Alhaji Ndagi Alhassan, gave the charge during an induction of pioneer graduate nurses of Gregory University, Uturu (GUU), Abia State, where Agaptus Nichole Chinasa emerged the best overall graduating student.

Alhassan, who was represented by a member of the council, Eleanor Chinwe Nwaka, encouraged the new nurses to be willing to learn from their colleagues who are already working in the clinical areas, accept corrections, improve and make adjustments positively where necessary to avoid unnecessary mistakes.

“Do you know where the mistake of health can lead somebody? It can lead to severe adverse effects or lead to the mortuary. So, let us be very careful while taking care of our patients,” he said.

Founder of the university, Prof. Greg Ibe, acknowledged the guidance and support the institution received from NMCN, which, he stated, has ensured that academic programmes of GUU meet the highest standards.

He congratulated the 21 pioneer nursing scholars for their trust, confidence and determination to pursue a career in the noble profession.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Celestina Njoku, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Regina Ogali, said the institution has made giant strides in graduating 21 registered nurses who have been inducted into the noble profession.

Guest lecturer, Prof. Peace Iheanacho, said the nursing profession has been recognised globally and called for excellence among its practitioners.
