The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has raised the alarm over the proliferation of fake and artificial intelligence (AI)-generated employment letters being circulated in the name of the Commission.
The Commission also warned members of the public against falling victim to fraudsters allegedly extorting money from unsuspecting job seekers under the guise of helping them secure employment with the regulatory agency.
In a statement issued on Tuesday,by its Spokesperson, Eniola Akinkuotu the Commission said it had received reports of fake employment letters bearing the names of persons unknown to the NUPRC.
According to the Commission, some unscrupulous and criminal elements have also been collecting money from members of the public by falsely claiming they could facilitate their recruitment into the agency.
The NUPRC said it had reported the activities of the suspected fraudsters to relevant law enforcement agencies and was awaiting the outcome of investigations.
It urged members of the public to exercise caution and verify any purported recruitment offer before taking further steps to avoid falling victim to the scam.
The Commission stated categorically that it was not currently conducting any recruitment exercise.
“The NUPRC states categorically that there is no ongoing recruitment exercise at the Commission,” it said.
It added that whenever the Commission decides to recruit, the process would be conducted strictly in accordance with extant laws and government regulations.
The NUPRC therefore advised job seekers and members of the public to disregard any purported employment offer or recruitment process that does not emanate through the Commission’s authorised channels.
