… Inaugurates new state chairman, Bullem, vows to reclaim state
The Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River State has thrown open its doors to members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, unveiling a Rainbow Coalition to power its bid to reclaim the state in 2027.
The party’s governorship candidate, Arthur Jarvis, made the declaration on Friday during the swearing-in of its new state chairman, Dr. Francis Abang Bullem, in a move signalling the PDP is ready to fight back.
According to Archibong, “I have also said that the windows of defection are open to our brothers in APC.
“That window of defection is open to everybody. Let us take note that our party will soon launch the Rainbow Coalition.”
Jarvis said the PDP that emerges in 2027 will be a party for all Cross Riverians, not a closed club.
“When we come into office in 2027, it is going to be a party for Cross Riverians,” he said.
He insisted the party was stronger despite its recent troubles, crediting those who stayed behind for keeping it alive, and urged members to bury their differences and unite for the common goal of reclaiming the state.
Earlier, Bullem, in his acceptance speech, pledged to heal the wounds of the leadership contest and restore confidence in the party.
“To those who supported another candidate, I extend a sincere hand of fellowship and partnership. We are one party and there is room for everyone,” he said.
He promised to lead with integrity, listen to members, and build partnerships capable of strengthening the PDP ahead of 2027, with reconciliation, partnership and inclusiveness as his watchwords.
The PDP State Secretary, Joe Obi Bisong, explained that Bullem’s emergence followed the resignation of the former chairman.
The State Working Committee, he added met and adopted a replacement in line with Article 47, Subsection 6 of the PDP constitution, which provides for filling vacancies, with the new chairman nominated from the same zone as his predecessor before taking the oath of office and allegiance.
